Hamburg – While the V-Class, Citan, Vito and Sprinter cover an impressive scope of model variants, Mercedes-Benz is not able to meet every customer's individual wishes ex factory. Special tasks call for special solutions – this is where the Bodybuilder Centre of Mercedes-Benz Vans and its specialists for the various industries come in. At the TecForum Clever Bodybuilder Solutions 2015, Mercedes-Benz is presenting around 40 customised body and conversion solutions. The brand will also be exhibiting its driving aids for people with restricted mobility for the first time. They will be available from next year.
Body and conversion specialists augment the extensive ex-factory range
All the possible body, weight and drive options offered by V-Class, Citan, Vito and Sprinter in all their different combinations add up to several thousand variants. This results in an extensive scope of urban delivery vehicles, vans and MPVs ranging between four and over seven metres in length and with a permissible gross weight from 1.8 to 5.0 t, with front-wheel, rear-wheel and all-wheel drive, with diesel, petrol and natural gas engines as well as with manual and automatic transmission. The spectrum covers the majority of applications entailing the transportation of goods or passengers in this segment.
It is nevertheless not possible to fulfil every wish ex factory, from workshop fit-outs through minibuses to ice-cream vans. This gap is filled by the producers of highly specialised body and conversion solutions in Germany, Europe and far beyond. Worldwide around 50 percent of all newly registered Sprinter vans are provided with a body or conversion solution from a specialist. The conversion rate for the Vito is around 25 percent, with a corresponding figure of around 20 percent for the Citan.
Bodybuilder Centre validates and recommends conversion solutions
The Mercedes-Benz Bodybuilder Centre – abbreviated to BB Centre – has developed a multi-tier range of body and conversion solutions for customers in cooperation with renowned conversion partners. VanSolution pools particularly sought-after, highly specialised product solutions from Mercedes-Benz for various sectors. These solutions are marketed by way of single-invoice transactions, covering sale, financing, service, guarantee and warranty.
VanPartners are validated and certified conversion partners who market body and conversion solutions at an international level by way of dual-invoice transactions. This means that here the body and conversion specialists are the business partners for their scopes of delivery. Customers can visit the public information portal at www.vanpartner.com to acquire a general overview of the services on offer, obtain information in eleven languages and refer to the contact details to get in touch with the suppliers directly. Almost 350 body and conversion solutions are listed on the information portal.
TecForum 2015: some 40 body and conversion solutions from eight countries
Mercedes-Benz Vans is presenting some 40 body and conversion solutions from seven European countries and the USA at the TecForum Clever Bodybuilder Solutions 2015 in Hamburg. The exhibits take in the whole spectrum, from a workshop fit-out through a camper van, a conversion into a three-axle vehicle with all-wheel drive to a minibus and an ice-cream van.
The vehicles break down into the seven exhibition islands "emergency vehicles", "cooling and box bodies", "people mover", "camper vans", "workshop and construction", "special purpose vehicles" and "handicapped mobility".
New: factory-fitted driving aids for Citan and V-Class from 2016
On this exhibition island Mercedes-Benz Vans is also presenting its driving aids for people with restricted mobility. From next year, both the Citan and the V-Class will be optionally available with factory-fitted driving aids for active drivers.
Ranging from a steering wheel turning knob through a hand control unit for accelerator and brake to a multifunction rotary knob as a radio remote control for light, indicators and windscreen wipers, these aids are able to offset a diverse range of handicaps. Vehicle and equipment come from one and the same manufacturer: the driving aids are installed at the Mercedes-Benz Cars Modification Center within the Sindelfingen plant. They are provided with the same factory guarantee as applies to the complete vehicle. Further modifications are carried out by specialist conversion partners.
