  • Mercedes-Benz flagship model impresses the readers of the Irish magazine "Fleet Transport"
  • The spotlight in the Irish "Truck of the Year" awards ceremony falls for the fourth time on the Actros
  • Honours too for the Antos as best distribution truck and FleetBoard as the best truck innovation
The New Actros is "Truck of the Decade" in Ireland: this prestigious award was presented for the very first time in Dublin last Friday. Readers of "Fleet Transport" magazine, truck drivers and owners, users of social networks such as Twitter and Facebook, along with visitors to the most recent "Mondello Truck Show", were able to vote for their favourites. The choice was between the last ten winners of the Irish "Truck of the Year" award, among them leading brands such as Scania, MAN, DAF and Volvo. And the clear winner was the New Mercedes-Benz Actros.
In addition, the Mercedes-Benz Antos won one of the coveted awards: as the best distribution truck 2014. Daimler FleetBoard GmbH was similarly honoured as the best innovation for trucks. Its telematics-based internet services help companies to save fuel and to manage their logistics processes better. The spotlight fell on the Actros for the fourth time at the Irish "Truck of the Year" awards ceremony, as the truck had previously won the award three times. The vote of the independent "jury" once again serves to underline the success of the economical, environmentally friendly and innovative long-distance Actros truck on the Irish market.
"This victory is a further tremendous accolade for the already multiple award-winning Mercedes-Benz Actros", commented Jarlath Sweeney, publisher of Fleet Transport magazine, at the presentation of the award. "With the aerodynamic design of its cab, its outstanding driving characteristics, its handling and comfort, the new Actros sets a fresh benchmark. A worthy winner of the Irish 'Truck of the Decade' award."
The truck had previously already won the highly sought-after Irish "Truck of the Year 2013" trophy back in 2012. The international "Truck of the Year" jury, made up of specialist commercial vehicle journalists from 24 European countries, has also voted a total of four times for Mercedes-Benz's long-distance specialist as the best truck of the year. The success story began as long ago as 1997 with the very first Actros, while its successors would go on to win the competition in 2004 and 2009. With a total of eight titles in all, Mercedes-Benz is now the most successful brand to contend for this award for technological development, the key criterion in the selection process undertaken by the Truck of the Year jury.
Fergus Conheady, Head of Sales at Mercedes-Benz Ireland, said: "We are delighted to have been awarded this very special Irish trophy and would like to thank everyone who voted for our truck. This recognition makes us extremely proud and motivates us to continue our efforts." With a market share of 21 percent, Mercedes-Benz is the clear market leader in the highly competitive tractor unit sector in Europe. In fact, all in all, the story of the Mercedes-Benz Actros since its launch in 2011 has been a successful one. In the meantime, over half of all new Actros models ordered by European customers – and this a full year before the more stringent emissions standard comes into effect - are Euro VI-compliant versions. In Germany, in fact, the proportion is more than 75 percent. With around 800,000 vehicles sold since its market launch in 1996, the Mercedes-Benz Actros is the most successful heavy-duty truck in the world.
The Actros is Mercedes-Benz's specialist answer to the demands of the international heavy-duty transport sector. It was joined last year by the Mercedes-Benz Antos for all heavy-duty distribution transport requirements from 18 tonnes upwards, while the Mercedes-Benz Arocs faces up to the challenges of heavy-duty construction site operations in self-assured style. When it comes to light-duty construction site and distribution applications from 7.5 tonnes upwards, the new generation of the Mercedes-Benz Atego is there to help. All vehicles in the new product range have been developed with the needs of customers and their specific areas of operation in mind – and they are united in delivering low fuel consumption figures, despite their Euro VI technology.

Daimler at the 64th IAA Commercial Vehicles Show with Top-Class Products. Thanks to the new Mercedes-Benz Actros in particular, demand remains stable in the Western European market. Around 10,000 new Actros trucks are already on the road, one-third of them as Euro VI variants. With the new Antos Mercedes-Benz developed for the first time a truck especially for the needs of heavy distribuition.
