Vehicle profile: Mercedes-Benz Citaro (Bus of the Year)

Equipment (excerpt): The first regular service urban bus certified as standard to Euro VI emission limits is called the Mercedes-Benz Citaro. This was not only lauded by the customers, but the public as well: the new Citaro was voted "Bus of the Year" 2013 by an independent jury.
This honour not only rewards cleanliness, but at the same time highest economic efficiency: due to numerous measures, despite additional major components the new Citaro is not heavier and is actually more fuel efficient than its predecessor. Out of the many individual measures the most noteworthy is the recuperation module as a buffer for electricity that is generated for free during braking and coasting.
The Citaro, painted cherry red metallic, is at the same time a true safety bus. It offers an unsurpassed level of safety with the Electronic Stability Program ESP, bi-xenon headlamps, LED entrance lights on the edges of the steps of the three doors, video monitoring of the cash register, entrance areas and passenger compartment as well as a fire detection and extinguishing system.
The passengers travel on City Star Eco seats with La Plata fabric upholstery. They benefit from the innovative ambience lighting as well as from the reading lamps above every seat and above the standing section. Entrance for passengers with restricted mobility is facilitated by an electrically operated cassette ramp at the centre door. A place to rest against is provided for them in the special-purpose area directly across from the centre door. In the newly designed cockpit the driver is pleased among other things about a refrigerator box for beverages and an electromagnetically locked door that features a glass partition extending half the width of the door. The test vehicle is powered by the combination of an upright in-line six-cylinder OM 936 engine installed on the left-hand side with the ZF Ecolife automatic transmission.
