- Five silver Actros tractor units for transporting the Silver Arrows
- Further Actros trucks for the team's general transport logistics
- DB Schenker acquires vehicles for 48 months through Mercedes-Benz CharterWay Rental
The MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS F1 Team's new logistics partner, DB Schenker, took delivery of five Mercedes-Benz Actros models as new race trucks for the Formula 1 World Championship-winning team in Wörth at the end of January. DB Schenker is making use of the trucks to undertake all logistics services at the European Formula 1 races, tests and promotional events up until the end of 2018. The appropriate contracts were officially signed today in Brackley (GB).
The race trucks are five Mercedes-Benz Actros 1845 LS tractor units with GigaSpace cab in brilliant silver. Over the coming four years, the five trucks will be used to transport the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 racing cars. DB Schenker also acquired a further fleet of Actros 1845 LSNRL models featuring the BigSpace cab with DB Schenker branding. This part of the fleet is being used for the racing team's general transport logistics.
The vehicles feature a wealth of comfort and safety equipment such as auxiliary air conditioning, the “Economy Package” and also the extensive “Top Safety Package”. This safety package includes the emergency braking system Active Brake Assist 3, a lane departure warning system, Stability Control Assist, Proximity Control Assist with stop-and-go function plus further safety systems. Exceptionally low fuel consumption and maximum vehicle economy are assured by the Predictive Powertrain Control which, thanks to the linking of GPS data, the cruise control and the automated Mercedes PowerShift transmission, is able to detect the topography ahead and thus operate at optimum fuel consumption.
Successful cooperation with CharterWay
DB Schenker and Mercedes-Benz CharterWay have already been working together successfully since 2009. The logistics specialist based in Frankfurt/Main relies primarily on the CharterWay haulage operator model's product and service range adapted specifically to its transport requirements, which offers haulage companies contracted by DB Schenker a particularly flexible and economical form of vehicle procurement. That's because the haulage operator model allows the contractor fast and uncomplicated access to the vehicles defined in the agreement between CharterWay and DB Schenker, which are designed in the logistics specialist's corporate design.
In the haulage operator model, CharterWay enters into strategic partnerships with haulage and logistics companies. The agreements define certain vehicle models plus financing conditions and rental products for the logistics specialists' haulage operators. In this way, they get fast and uncomplicated access to the pool vehicles agreed with the logistics company, which are liveried according to the corporate design of their client, while ensuring that they complete their transport assignment or also remain flexible at peak times.
