The 2021 Masters Tournament: Mercedes-Benz brand ambassadors return to Augusta National after just 144 days
Mercedes-Benz is partner of the world’s most prestigious golf tournament for the 14th straight edition
Stuttgart/Augusta, Georgia. Back-to-back Masters: Never before has the time between two consecutive majors in Augusta been this short. Only 144 days after the 2020 Tournament, the 85th edition of the Masters will take place at Augusta National Golf Club (ANGC) from 08 to 11 April 2021. Last year, the competition was moved from April to November due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the splendour of the blooming azaleas and springtime in Augusta will return, highlighting the storied traditions of the Tournament. Once again, the Masters is back as the first men’s major of the year.
A limited number of patrons will have the opportunity to be on-site at Augusta National this April. For the luxury car brand Mercedes-Benz, the Tournament is one of the most important sporting events of the year. Bettina Fetzer, Vice President Marketing Mercedes-Benz AG, says about the Tournament: “The Masters last year was unusual due to the situation, but special nonetheless. Now the event is back as the first sporting highlight of the year in golf – with its typical charm and character. We’re looking to Augusta in anticipation and are delighted to ensure the players’ mobility as Global Partner of the Tournament.”
In addition to players and Tournament officials, the Mercedes-Benz brand ambassadors benefit from this mobility promise in a special way. Bernhard Langer, Jon Rahm and Ian Poulter will be provided with their own vehicles during the Tournament.
German golf legend Bernhard Langer is very pleased with his Mercedes-Benz GLS, which makes him feel safe during the entire Tournament: “I prefer driving the vehicle myself. It is always nice to hold the steering wheel. It calms me down and helps provide a relaxing start to the day. The approach to Augusta National on Magnolia Lane towards the Clubhouse is always a special sight. In addition, my own vehicle provides me with added safety as part of all the measures to protect against COVID-19.”
In addition, Bernhard Langer was privileged to take a look inside the all-electric luxury saloon EQS shortly before its world premiere. The EQS will be unveiled on 15 April in a digital world premiere on the online platform Mercedes me media (Link). Bernhard Langer was particularly impressed by the MBUX Hyperscreen, which is being launched in the EQS for the first time. “This for sure is the biggest screen I have ever seen in a car. But it makes perfectly sense and means a new level of driving assistance. It is like your personal caddy in your car,” says the golf pro.
This year, Bernhard Langer will compete at Augusta National for the 38th time. With his two victories in 1985 and 1993, he has secured a life-long invitation to the Masters. In November, he showed why he is still one of the best players in the world as he became the oldest player in Masters history to make the cut, leaving some big names of the world rankings behind. Bernhard Langer knows the par-72 course better than most. Building on last year’s success, he now would like to break his own record.
“I am looking forward to the challenge of competing against the best once more. But, of course, I am also playing against myself and want to break my own records. I hope I can put my experience to good use for this purpose. For example, I putted very well last year and that will surely be crucial again this year,” says Bernhard Langer.
With Jon Rahm and Ian Poulter, two more Mercedes-Benz brand ambassadors are hoping to win the Green Jacket. Jon Rahm, third in the world rankings, made it to the top ten of the Masters last year on his fifth start. The Spaniard’s ambition is to win his first major this year. Ian Poulter also made the cut last year and wants to improve and build on his performance at Augusta.
