Istanbul, here we come: Next weekend’s 16th round of the 2021 season takes Formula One to Istanbul Park, which made its comeback in the premier class of motorsport last year. The Turkish Grand Prix was previously staged at this same venue between 2005 and 2011. So far, there have been five different winners on the 5.338 km circuit, with Felipe Massa leading the way on three victories. Lewis Hamilton has won the Turkish GP twice so far (2010, 2020). Last year’s win was not only the first for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team in Istanbul, but also the one that secured the F1 Drivers’ World Championship for the seventh time in Lewis’s career. Mercedes’ tally of four victories in eight races also makes it the most successful engine manufacturer in the Turkish event: in addition to the two wins by Lewis, the brand with the three-pointed star also ran out winners on the circuit’s F1 debut in 2005, with Kimi Räikkönen at the wheel of a McLaren-Mercedes, and in the 2009 season when Jenson Button drove the Brawn GP. The track record dating back to 2011 was clocked by Sebastian Vettel in a time of 1:25.049 minutes. The fastest race lap to date was set by Juan-Pablo Montoya in a McLaren-Mercedes (1:24.770 minutes) at the inaugural Turkish GP in the 2005 season.

Mercedes-AMG celebrates early manufacturers’ championship in the DTM at the Hockenheimring: Mercedes-AMG Motorsport has already wrapped up the DTM Manufacturers’ Championship ahead of the final race weekend of the 2021 campaign at the Norisring (8 ‑ 10 October). By virtue of a strong all-round result in the penultimate event at the Hockenheimring and a 107-point lead over the opposition, Mercedes-AMG can no longer be denied the title. For the Customer Sports programme, this title also spells a successful comeback in the new DTM.

Having started Sunday’s race at Hockenheim from second on the grid, Lucas Auer (AUT) in the number 22 car of Mercedes-AMG Team WINWARD immediately surged into the lead, which he then comfortably retained through to the chequered flag for his second win of the season. Maximilian Götz (GER) delivered another podium success with P3, which was enough to take the Mercedes-AMG Team HRT veteran up to third place in the drivers’ standings, 26 points adrift of the championship leader with one weekend still remaining.

William Tregurtha (GBR) in the number 85 Mercedes-AMG GT4 of CV Performance Group finished second overall in both DTM Trophy races. The Brit goes into the Norisring finale, which will be contested as part of the DTM support programme, just three points behind the leader.

One-two win and podium appearances in the ADAC GT Masters at the Sachsenring: In the tenth round of the 2021 ADAC GT Masters at the Sachsenring on Sunday, Team Zakspeed Mobil Krankenkasse Racing and Mercedes-AMG Team Toksport WRT made it a one-two for the brand. While Jules Gounon (FRA) and Igor Waliłko (POL) in the number 13 car were completing a commanding lights-to-flag victory in Sunday’s second race, Maro Engel and Luca Stolz (both GER) in the #22 GT3 secured second place after an impressive overtaking move on the last lap. The duo had already booked the same result on Saturday. The two podium finishes for Engel and Stolz take them up to second place in the drivers’ championship, just two points behind the current leaders, with two race weekends remaining. Next stop for the series is the Hockenheimring on the weekend of 22 ‑ 24 October.

Successful weekend in GT4 America and GT World Challenge America at Sebring International Raceway: Murillo Racing won the Silver Cup Team Championship with races to spare on the penultimate weekend of GT4 America at Sebring International Raceway in Florida. Kenny Murillo and Christian Szymczak (both USA) in the number 72 GT4 finished both Saturday’s and Sunday’s races second in their class, thereby opening up an unbridgeable gap ahead of the final event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Colin Mullan and Michai Stephens (both USA) also enjoyed a perfect weekend. After winning the first of the two 60‑minute races, the drivers in the Conquest Racing West #35 made an impressive charge through the field from ninth on the grid to win Sunday’s second race.

A class podium for the number 16 Capstone Motorsport car, which finished second in the Pro-Am classification on Saturday, rounded off a successful weekend in the GT4 series.

Rounds eleven and twelve of the 2021 GT World Challenge America were also held at the same venue this weekend. After a disappointing first race, Mikaël Grenier (CAN) and Russell Ward (USA) in the WINWARD GT3 #33 raised their game on Sunday to take a well-deserved second place. The Pro-Am duo of Michael Cooper and Erin Vogel (both USA) in the DXDT Racing #19 also finished second in their class on Sunday.

A title and several podium successes in European GT4 series: In the GT4 France season finale at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, a P8 and a P3 for Thomas Drouet (FRA) in the #16 AKKA ASP were enough to clinch the drivers’ and team championship in the Pro-Am classification. The local favourite, on this occasion partnered by Fabien Barthez (FRA), has impressed above all with his consistency: in the twelve-race season, he only failed to score points once.

In the final race on Sunday, the twelve Mercedes-AMG GT4s once again went for broke, which yielded three more class podiums. The AKKA ASP #88 driven by Timothé Buret and Paul Evrard (both FRA) finished third in the Silver Cup, while Alberto de Martin and Marc Lopez (both ESP) in the number 67 NM Racing Team GT4 were runners-up in the Am class, their best result of the season. Third place in this class went to Jihad Aboujaoudé and Shahan Sarkissian (both LBN) in the number 4 car fielded by CD Sport.

In the ADAC GT4 Germany at the Sachsenring, Jan Marschalkowski (GER) and Théo Nouet (FRA) in the Team Zakspeed #13 made two podium appearances. After crossing the finish line in third place in the first of the two 60‑minute races on Saturday, they climbed one rung higher on Sunday after finishing the session in second place. With four races of the season to go, team and drivers occupy second place in the overall standings. The next event will take place as part of the ADAC GT Masters weekend at the Hockenheimring (22 ‑ 24 October).

Multiple GT3 wins in CT Cup Championship and Campeonato de España Resistencia: On the final weekend of the GT Cup Championship season at the Snetterton Motor Racing Circuit, the father-and-son pairing of Richard and Sam Neary (GBR) were once again the benchmark as they secured the championship for themselves and for the ABBA Racing team. While the Nearys in their number 88 GT3 fell a little short of expectations with fifth and eleventh place on Saturday, the duo were back in their usual top form on Sunday, taking a victory as well as another second place.

Daniel Díaz-Varela (ESP) was in a class of his own in the penultimate round of the Campeonato de España Resistencia at the Circuito de Jerez. He not only qualified twice for pole position in his Baporo Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 #110, but also won both of the weekend’s two races.
