The success story of the Mercedes-Benz Actros continues apace. The Wörth plant recently delivered the 100,000th new-generation Actros. The flagship model in the Mercedes-Benz Trucks product range continues to impress with its economy, safety, vehicle dynamics and comfort. Since October 2015 the Actros has been available with the latest, further improved generation of the OM 471 engine.
Compared to the preceding engine, this power unit saves up to a further three percent of fuel, lowering CO2 emissions in the same measure. In addition, the Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) cruise control system can reduce fuel consumption by up to a further five percent. This system reacts predictively to topographical features and optimises gearshifts while on a journey.
With the introduction of the new Actros to the Euro VI emission standard, PPC and the latest generation of the OM 471 engine, average fuel consumption has fallen by up to 13 percent compared to the preceding model. The truck therefore perfectly combines economy with ecology.
Also economical and comfortable in municipal service
The Mercedes-Benz Actros has not only proven its worth as a long-distance specialist, but also found recognition with customers in the municipal service sector. Thanks to flexible body variants it is e.g. outstandingly suitable for winter service on motorways, or as a roll-off container truck.
Optimisation of the overall vehicle in the wind tunnel has ensured low fuel consumption figures. As a special feature, the radiator fins open or close according to the temperature to improve the drag coefficient. It also has a further, so far unique feature: heating with residual engine heat utilisation.
The standard telematics system continuously evaluates the style of driving. The resulting data give the driver analyses and suggestions concerning the current driving style. An air suspension system as standard at the rear axle ensures maximum driving comfort and safety.
The speed-sensitive power steering operates precisely and accurately,while variable servo assistance helps to save fuel. The same applies to the demand-controlled three-phase alternator and air compressor, which mainly operate on the overrun.
Other available features include safety systems such as proximity control with a new stop-and-go function, Lane Keeping Assist, Stability Control Assist and the emergency braking system Active Brake Assist 3.
