- The Mercedes-Benz Tuscaloosa plant is the longstanding SUV production location, including the current GLE, GLE Coupé and GLS series.
- Since June 2014 the C-Class has been produced at the plant for the North American market. This high-volume classic in the Mercedes-Benz portfolio is produced under the leadership of the Bremen plant, and is also produced in East London (South Africa) and in the joint venture plant BBAC in Beijing (China).
- In the future, electric SUVs from product and technology brand EQ will also roll off the assembly line at the plant.
- Close to the present passenger car plant in Tuscaloosa, a battery factory is also being built. Tuscaloosa is therefore part of the Mercedes-Benz Cars global battery production network, which has operations on three continents.
- Additionally, the location’s logistics activities are being expanded. This includes a Global Logistics Center for exporting vehicle kits to Mercedes-Benz’s overseas assembly plants as well as a new after-sales hub for exporting spare parts.
- The Tuscaloosa, Alabama plant was the first large Mercedes-Benz passenger car production plant outside Germany.
- Founded in 1995, the plant began producing the M-Class (now the GLE) in 1997.
