Kickoff of Accelerator-Program Startupbootcamp in Berlin: Startupbootcamp: Turbo for creative business ideas
Stuttgart/Berlin. As of now, the ten finalists of Startupbootcamp - a program to support young startups - have ninety days to vitalize their innovative project ideas, business models and products on the topics Mobility, Connectivity and Big Data. After three months they present their results to potential investors. Mercedes-Benz is sponsor of this year's program in Berlin next to Bosch and HDI. A network of experts, mentors and alumni is on hand with help and advice for the creative folks during the entire time.
Since 2010, Startupbootcamp has made it its business to support young startups worldwide together with industry partners. The so-called Accelerator Program is held annually in four European cities and in Haifa, Israel. Heart of Startupbootcamp is a network of mentors from various industries, who provide the company founders with their expertise, experience and – even more important - their time.
Twenty teams chosen out of numerous applications beforehand were given the chance to present their projects on the “Selection Days” in front of mentors, experts and partners. The ten most promising startups have been selected; henceforth they have three months to fine-tune their business plans intensively. The teams move to the German capital for this period; free co-working space in Berlin-Kreuzberg and pre-seed funding of 15,000 Euro per team also belong to the starter package.
In addition, the participants can use free minutes for the 1,200 smarts of car2go, the official Mobility Partner in Berlin.
This year's program from Startupbootcamp in Berlin deals with “Mobility”, “Connectivity” and “Big Data”. The changing demands of society for mobility, all the possibilities of inter-connectivity through the increasing number of web-enabled devices and the resulting challenge to deal with unprecedented amounts of data - these are topics that demand solutions for the future and opportunities for new business ideas.
One of the selected startups is “ High-Mobility”. The team from Estonia and Sweden is working on a technology that allows smartphones or tablets to set vehicle infotainment systems via Bluetooth. This makes it possible, for example, to change the position of the mirror, to measure the tire pressure and to adjust the temperature in the vehicle. The American startup “1SDK” deals with the integration of multiple payment methods from various app stores with help of a central software development kit. “Avuxi” from Spain and Finland analyzed for a smartphone app geological data from various social networks and displays them on maps as a kind of thermal image. Depending on the social interaction, crowded places such as hotels or restaurants are colored in red, less shared places remain yellow or green. This project is already in a public testing phase.
The grand finale of Startupbootcamp is the “ Investor Demo Day” on 6th of November in Berlin. Once again the startups pitch their company and their ideas to hundreds of Business Angels. 70% of the Startupbootcamp alumni have gone on to raise additional funding from many business partners.
