Stuttgart - Turning two into one: FleetBoard Trailer Management combines the telematic data of the tractor unit and semitrailer. For the first time they are therefore displayed together on-screen to the dispatcher in the FleetBoard Cockpit. The company therefore obtains full transparency about all the data of the entire combination at a glance.
Clear combined representation in the FleetBoard Cockpit
Numerous telematic data, but only one system and only one display in the FleetBoard Cockpit of the dispatcher in the freight company – FleetBoard is extending its fleet management package with two new trailer services.
A major advantage is that dispatchers can see all the telematic data for the tractor unit and semitrailer compactly and clearly displayed on a single screen in the FleetBoard Cockpit.
Trailer ID service: Transfer of position and coupling status
FleetBoard has developed two different trailer services. The Trailer ID service shows the position of the trailer and its coupling status. The tractor unit recognises whether a trailer is attached, and identifies it by its vehicle identification number (VIN) via the electronic braking system. The data are transferred to the company together with the data from the tractor unit, using the truck's onboard computer. This means that the location of the trailer is known, and at the same time there is certainty that the truck is towing the correct trailer.
Trailer Data service: Additional data for the body and chassis
The second and more comprehensive Trailer Data service transfers a great deal of further information about the trailer's body and chassis. This includes e.g. the exact trailer model and its position, independently of the truck. In the case of refrigerated semitrailers, data transferred by the trailer include the status of the doors, the trailer's temperature recording and the status, operating mode and operating time of the refrigeration unit.
Trailer Data also transfers key data about the technical condition of the chassis. These include e.g. the axle loads, tyre pressures or the condition of the braking linings. All the data can be retrieved in the FleetBoard Cockpit.
Services to become available in the second quarter of this year
The Trailer ID service is available for the latest-generation of Mercedes-Benz trucks. The electronic braking system of the trailer must only allow an interrogation of its vehicle identification number. No other technical preinstallation is required, saving the customer any additional investment.
To provide the Trailer Data service, FleetBoard will initially cooperate with the telematic systems of Europe's two leading trailer manufacturers, Schmitz Cargobull and Krone. To use the service the customer must have a contract with the cooperating trailer telematics manufacturer. Expansion to include other providers is also planned.
The services will become available in the second quarter of this year.
