The Unimog programme for the Unimog implement carrier model series comprises the Unimog U 216 entry model and Unimog U 218 with 10 tonne permissible gross vehicle weight, as well as the U 318 (11 t permissible gross vehicle weight) and U 423 (13.8 t), for which the four-cylinder engines with output between 115 kW (156 hp) and 170 kW (231 hp) are the same. On the other hand, the Unimog U 427 (14 t) and U 527 (16.5 t), as well as the U 430 (14 t) and U 530 (16.5 t), have six-cylinder engines, as well as over 200 kW (272 hp) or 220 kW (299 hp).
The Unimog may be registered as a tractor unit/agricultural tractor as the Euro VI-D emissions standard for trucks is recognised as being equal to, or of greater value than the Euromot VI emissions standard legally required in Germany.
The U 216 and U 218 - Compact and agile entry models
On the Unimog vehicles U 216 and U 218, the wheelbase of 2800 millimetres is 200 millimetres smaller than that of the U 318, and these models are also 50 millimetres narrower. This allows them to achieve a turning circle of 12.6 metres, comparable with that of a car. This is important for the field work carried out in agriculture, in most cases facilitating a turn at the edge of the field without needing to back up.
All-wheel steering is available ex factory for the Unimog models from U 423 to U 530. It offers four different steering modes: standard steering with the front wheels, all-wheel steering with all the wheels, “crab steering” (or lateral axle displacement) for moving diagonally and manual steering of the rear wheels. This reduces the turning circle by up to 20 percent and considerably increases manoeuvrability.
All Unimog models include the fundamental advantages of the series, such as the high environmental standard of the Euro VI-D engines, the panoramic cab with low front windscreen, the EasyDrive synergetic traction drive - flying change when driving, from continuously variable hydrostatic drive to automated manual transmission - as well as the effective working and power hydraulics.
The extreme off-road Unimog U 4023 and U 5023 for field and road operations
In addition to the Unimog implement carrier series, the extreme off-road Unimog U 4023 and U 5023 are also used in agricultural operations. Mainly for plant protection and fertilising or liming with mounted sprayers or spreaders. One considerable advantage here is the ground clearance of 500 mm, as well as the impressive payload. Its higher road speed in comparison to regular agricultural tractors means the Unimog extreme off-roader model series is predestined for transport operations and rapid transfers between operational areas.
The Unimog specifically for the requirements of agricultural operations
There is also an agricultural version of the Unimog implement carrier: mechanical power take-off shaft and front power lift, rear power take-off and rear power lift, height-adjustable jaw trailer coupling, also in combination with low coupling for type 80 ball head, large agricultural tyres and a platform with panels that leaves a vision triangle enabling the rear mounting area to be seenThe wide 495/70/R24 tyres for the U 530 with variable tyre pressure enable particularly smooth driving on soft farmland and high traction as well as a road speed of 90 km/h.
