Demonstration of the Mercedes-Benz proximity control systems DISTRONIC and DISTRONIC PLUS up to the current version with the steering assistance system (Mercedes-Benz S 500 from model series 221 and Mercedes-Benz A 200 compact saloon from model series 177 with Intelligent Drive Next Level, fuel consumption combined 6.1 – 5.8 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 140 – 133 g/km *). In 1998 DISTRONIC proximity control was premiered. It brakes and accelerates the vehicle on the basis of radar measurements of the traffic in front in a range between 40 and 160 km/h. That was followed in 2005 by DISTRONIC PLUS with an extended speed range of 200 km/h to a standstill. Today DISTRONIC PLUS is linked with Steering Assist and part of Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive.
