Interior: Modernity and lifestyle

Jun 3, 2016

The driver and front passenger can enjoy the charm of the Cabriolet in a high-quality ambience.

Once the roof is opened it reveals the carefully coordinated harmony between the exterior and interior design. It is replete with high-quality details. A chromed frame surrounds the A-pillars and windscreen. It is visually extended by a chromed beltline trim strip continuing to the soft top compartment, which in turn sits stylishly in a wide chrome surround.

The interior ambience is similar to that of the C-Class Coupé, though freshly interpreted with features typical of a convertible. High-grade materials give the interior a modern feel of sportiness and lifestyle.

The interior is likewise an emphatic statement of the Mercedes-Benz design philosophy of sensual purity. The door and rear side panelling, as well as the centre console, merge smoothly to emphasise the sporty character of the Cabriolet. In vehicles with an automatic transmission and DIRECT SELECT selector lever on the steering wheel, a large, one-piece centre console panel sweeps elegantly from the centre air vents to the touchpad in the handrest above the controller on the centre tunnel. These seamless, clear-cut lines create a sense of open space and convey a sense of simple, purist modernity.

On vehicles with manual transmission, the centre console is slightly steeper and features two separate trim elements in order to create optimal space for ergonomic operation of the shift lever.

A wing-shaped piece of trim separates the upper and lower sections of the instrument panel. Its design makes it look like it is floating in the air. The visual split also makes it possible to choose different material and colour combinations. A high-grade, leather-lined dashboard is available for the Cabriolet as an optional extra.

A centrally positioned free-standing central display is the main eye-catching feature above the centre console – with a screen diagonal of 17.78 centimetres (7 inches), or 21.33 centimetres (8.4 inches) if COMAND Online is specified. It is connected with a piece of horizontal trim. Thanks to its ergonomic positioning, the eye easily adapts to the central display. Visualisations and animations enhance the operating convenience and make the functions of driver assistance and communications systems tangible.

Control and display concept with a very high standard

The control and display concept is specific to the Cabriolet. The curved switch which opens and closes the soft top is located in the centre console between the touchpad and armrest, and has a high-quality matt silver chrome finish.

The touchpad in the handrest of the central controller developed by Mercedes-Benz marks an evolutionary step. As on a smartphone, all the functions of the multimedia system can be operated using finger gestures.

As in the C-Class Saloon and Coupé, an optional head-up display ensures less distraction from the traffic situation. This projects important information directly into the driver's field of vision in front of the windscreen, and displays the current speed, posted speed limits, navigation instructions and DISTRONIC messages depending on the selected settings.

Interior lighting is largely provided by long-lasting and energy-saving LED technology. This also applies to the optionally available solar (amber), polar (ice blue) and neutral (white) ambience lighting.

Seats – sporty and variable

Based on the Coupé, the sport seats feature an integral look with muscular side bolsters and organically integrated head restraints, as well as the AIRSCARF neck-level heating optional for the Cabriolet. On request they can be upholstered in heat-reflecting leather available in five colours. Automatic belt extenders as standard help the occupants to fasten their seat belts.

The rear seats are in the form of individual seats. Their backrests offer an electrically unlockable through-loading feature as standard, can be split 50:50 for high everyday practicality and can be completely folded down.

The stowage capacity of the basic model with manual transmission is 20 litres, and 23.3 litres with the automatic transmission plus the optional Stowage package.

Stylish colour and material combinations accentuate the sportiness of the Cabriolet. Among them is the classic convertible combination of black and saddle brown. An optionally available, contrasting interior in black/porcelain adds a progressive touch. The colour combination of the Edition 1 in black ARTICO/Dinamica and nut brown is a particular highlight. It emphasises the modern, cool Mercedes-Benz design with a topstitching concept in turquoise. The roof liner is available in black, porcelain or crystal grey depending on the upholstery. Numerous trim elements in sporty aluminium, carbon-fibre or glass-fibre are complemented by authentic open-pore wood species in shades of brown and black.

Individual highlights

The Cabriolet already comes as standard with a high equipment specification, which is augmented by a wide range of individualisation options (some examples: 13 upholstery variants, such as designo Bengal red / black, seven trim variants, four soft-top colours, twelve paint finishes – including a matt finish, leather-covered instrument panel).

The AMG Line is available as an alternative to underline the dynamism of the Cabriolet. It differs by virtue of exterior features such as special bumpers with larger air inlets and foglamp recesses, a wide, chrome-plated front splitter and sills with AMG bodystyling, a diamond radiator grille with pins in chrome and 18-inch AMG light-alloy wheels. Interior highlights of the AMG Line include sporty exclusive touches such as upholstery in ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfibre in black with contrasting topstitching, a multifunction sport steering wheel with flat lower section and AMG sports pedals. Open-pore black ash wood trim combined with aluminium in the dashboard and the doors emphasise the AMG look.

For the Basis line, additional eye-catching features are added by the optional Interior Chrome package with silver chrome surrounds that include the instrument cluster, air vents and door handles.

The Cabriolet is available with a choice of eleven paint colours and one special paint finish. In addition, there are 13 wheel designs, six upholstery colours and seven different types of trim to choose from as a form of personal expression.

On market launch an Edition 1 will be available for a limited time. With a host of perfectly coordinated equipment lines, it combines sportiness with lifestyle, thus perfectly suiting the sporty-modern look of the new Cabriolet.
